Last week I noticed that Missle Command for my iPhone had an update available. I updated and thought nothing if it. I just played it for the first time since the update and I am plesantly suprised. Atari has addressed pretty much the only two gripes with the game.
• You no longer have to select which silo your missles fire from. I think they went overboard with the touchscreen aspect of the game originally. It slowed down the game and made it annoying to play. However they realized thier mistake, and now it plays like the Atari 2600 version and automatically fires from the closest silo.
• In the original game, there was periodically an enemy that would drop that was a blinking dot. In the iPhone version you had to it it dead on with the missle, the explosion would just push it around the screen. It was like hitting a moving period. It was practically impossible. It’s much more forgiving now, and it’s more true to the original.
It was a good choice for Atari to go back and fix the game. It could have came a bit sooner, but the game is now even more enjoyable than it was. I recommend purchasing it.
