Assassin's Creed

Okay, so I am a little behind on my games. I started Assassin’s Creed about a year ago and somehow switched to Call of Duty 4 in the middle. I don’t want to make this review that in depth because I am sure you have already played/beat it, or have read a real review somewhere else. I just want to get some things off my chest.

I thought the game started out slow. It takes a good deal of playing to get in a position where you are actually having fun. A lot of the opening of the game is waiting. I was not feeling it. However, once you learn your skills and have the ability to free roam, I had a much better time playing.

I am only on the fourth assassination at the moment, but the game seems to be a one trick pony. This is how it plays out. You get a mission. You ride your horse to a city. You find out some information. You kill your target. Then you run away. Maybe I am acting prematurely, but this seems to be how the whole game is playing out.

My main complaint . . . this is a game of assassination, yet you can't sneak. I am also pretty sure that you can’t even crouch. How was this overlooked. The game feels like its lacking when you literally walk up to everyone upright, while your clothing is making clanging noises and they don’t hear you. It feels really weird and unfulfilling after playing any Splinter Cell game.

My sub-complaint . . . so far it's been way to easy. Combat is very predictable. You get a counter attack ability pretty early in the game and you can kill anyone with it. You can be surrounded by ten guards and it’s the same procedure as fighting only one. Hold parry the whole time, then counter attack, then you win. You never, ever feel that you are in danger, even when you are being chased. It is easy to kill your enemies, and it is easy to run away and hide.

Final though . . . its fun to play, but gets old after about an hour. Its a good game to play when you have some time to kill between other stuff.

Assuming Ubisoft will make corrections to all of the complaints about AC1, AC2 is going to rule.

When the trailers for AC1 first hit, I was really into it. I think the whole memory thing kinda ruined it a bit for me. For some reason I have a bad feeling that AC2 will just be AC1, with some added gimmicks.
